Carbón

Branding
'Carbón' translates to english as 'charcoal' and is also the name of Chef Pablo Galindo's new Mexican restaurant located in Bondi Beach, AUS. After the success of Taqiza within it's first year, he and his team decided to open this grilled / wood-fired kitchen. Once again inspired by Tulum, this time he approaches Mexican Gastronomy in it's most prehispanic and rustic version, bringing everything to the flames to enhance flavors and aromas. The design challenge: to make this new identity the 'dark-spirited sister' of Taqiza, and create a visual link as a family.
As Taqiza uses a Bird in it's logo, I thought this element would be an interesting connection to the creation of the new brand. Premium, crafted, but still rustic and intricate, this design marriages the mysterious side of the prehispanic Mexican jungle with the new high-end lifestyle of Tulum. The visual language feels as if it has been recovered from the flames; the logo features an arrangement of beans and rice in the shape of a bird and the lettering reflects wild jungle palm leaves. Everything human-touched, and everything with a hint of copper as an exaltation of the ultimate Mexican aesthetic.
